What's New?

2016 Canadian Western Agribition Recap – We were excited heading into Agribition this year; we were finally displaying all purebred bulls in our Yards pen which meant we could partake in Bull Pen Alley, we had a pen of home raised heifers off of SVS Captain Morgan 11Z that were bred to a home raised SAV Final Answer bull to show and sell, and the LaFrentz’s were bringing in our Wheatland Royal Flush 435B bull to show.

The Simmental show was when our week really ramped up. To put it mildly, we were eager to see Royal Flush back in the ring. We knew we had a great bull but more importantly we knew we had incredible people outfitting and showing him. We cannot say enough about how hard Vern, Denise, Riley, Cody and their crew worked. It was absolutely humbling to observe their knowledge and dedication throughout the week. Wheatland Royal Flush 435B won his class and was slapped Grand Champion Simmental Bull. He earned his spot in the RBC Beef Supreme Challenge where he was pulled out for the top ten. We are honoured, it’s a feeling like no other and it will stay with us forever.

On a side note, it’s been about a year since we purchased Wheatland Royal Flush 435B and are happy to announce that we have flushes to him off many of our top cows as well as quite a few in calve for this January.

We rounded out the week with some good hospitality and a couple wins in the commercial barn. We took three SVS Captain Morgan 11Z sons with us to display in The Yards and show in Bull Pen Alley. They won their split and were named Grand Champion Pen of Simmental Bulls. We have A.I.’ed quite a few of our commercial cattle to SVS Captain Morgan; the pen of bred heifers we took to Agribition is a small sample of them. They are bred to a good half-blood bull we raised called JPCC Super Smooth 69B. They won their split and sold well. We have had a few visitors to the farm looking for more just like them.

We kicked off the female buying season with the purchase of HTH Honey 47C. She was one of, if not the highest seller at the Simmental sale. She is bred to WFL Absolute 51Y; a bull we have admired for some time and purchased a son, R Plus 5015C off of this spring. She will fit in our embryo producing pen nicely.
All in all, Agribition was a big success! We are looking forward to the upcoming female sales and having a bountiful calving season.
